Research Topics

My research interests include, but are not limited to: Applied Mathematics, Time Series Analysis, Application of Mathematics to Product Design, Matrix Theory, and so on.
I am also interested in Scandinavian design, Swedish statistical data, and Swedish language.

Time Series Analysis

One of my main research areas is time series analysis. For example, we have developed an effective method to detect signs of abnormality in time series.

Test ABN

Product Design

I have been analyzing mathematical curves such as Lamé curves (superellipses) and Gielis curves with a view to application in product design.

Gielis Curves

Matrix Theory

I have published several papers on matrix theory. For example, I analyzed the relation between the CG (conjugate gradient) method and Burg's algorithm. The CG method is one of the most important and useful algorithms for the numerical solution of linear equations. On the other hand, Burg's algorithm is an algorithm for estimating the parameters of time series models. Although both algorithms are quite popular, it is less known that these algorithms have a common mathematical structure. Therefore, I closely reviewed these algorithms and revealed how they are related with each other.

Why Ehime University?

For Prospective International Students in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences (including Data Science)

5 Reasons

to Study at Ehime University

  • Best Location
Ehime University is located near the center of Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Matsuyama is a large city in the sense that it has a population of more than 500,000 people. At the same time, the city is very compact and everything you need is located within 10 minutes by bicycle from the university. Moreover, the living costs in Matsuyama are much cheaper than in Tokyo.

  • Comfortable and Unique Experiences
The climate in Matsuyama is very mild and there are many cultural heritages such as Matsuyama Castle and Dogo Onsen (the oldest hot springs resort in Japan). During your stay in Matsuyama, you can enjoy beautiful nature, fresh foods (everything from vegetables, fruits to fish and meat) and various cultural experiences.

  • Courses Offered in English
(Here the term "course" does not refer to a degree program itself, but a unit or subject, which is part of a degree program.) Most of the graduate courses in mathematics and mathematical sciences are offered (at least partially) in English on demand. Therefore you can obtain a master's degree or doctoral degree even if you do not speak Japanese. Moreover, some of the undergraduate courses are offered in English on demand for exchange students.

  • Courses on Japanese Culture and Language
Institute for International Relations, Ehime University, offers various courses on Japanese culture and Japanese language for international students. Exchange students, as well as degree-seeking students, can attend such courses.

  • Cutting-edge Education in Data Science
Ehime University established CDSE (the Center for Data Science, Ehime University) in April 2020 to promote cutting-edge education, research and social engagement in the field of data science. CDSE provides introductory courses and advanced intensive courses on data science.

5 Things

to Know about Ehime University

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Programs
Faculty of Science (Undergraduate School of Science) offers undergraduate programs (bachelor's programs), while Graduate School of Science and Engineering offers graduate programs (master's and doctral programs). Most of our faculty members (including me) belong to both Faculty of Science and Graduate School of Science and Engineering.

  • Potential Supervisors
You can find a list of researchers in mathematics and mathematical sciences (in other words, potential supervisors) here. The research topics range from pure mathematics to applied mathematics, statistics, and data science.

  • Application (Degree-seeking Programs)
Application guidelines and forms are available here. Please note that application information on undergraduate programs is available only in Japanese, because Japanese proficiency is needed to successfully complete the undergraduate program. (This is not the case with exchange programs and graduate programs.)

  • Application (Exchange Programs)
In order to apply to an exchange program, you must be a student at one of our partner institutions. Concrete information about application procedures and schedule is available here (Click on the Language icon to change the language). Please note that you must be officially nominated by your home institution.

  • Tuition and Fees
Please refer here for information on tuition and fees (Click on the Language icon to change the language) . In most cases, international exchange students are required to pay tuition at their home institution and therefore are exempt from tuition at Ehime University. However, it depends on the conditions stipulated in the student exchange agreement. For accurate and detailed information, please consult with the Student Exchange Office at your home institution.
